Adelphi University’s Professor Huang Zhimin gives a report on research and critical thinking

  On the morning of September 29, 2020, Professor Huang Zhimin from the Business School of Adelphi University was invited to give an online academic report entitled "Research and Critical Thinking: A Study in Supply Chain Management". Professor Biying Yu acted as a facilitator for the event. The teachers and students of the center participated in this report.

  Professor Huang Zhimin is a professor at the Business School of Adelphi University in the United States, the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Modeling in Management, and the editorial board of many world-leading journals. Professor Huang is an authoritative expert in the DEA field, under the tutelage of Abraham Charnes, the founder of operations research. He is also considered as the pioneer in the field of cooperative advertising. He has published more than 80 articles in first-class academic journals in the areas of management, economics, and operations research, of which two were in Decision Sciences, the number one journal in decision sciences, and 11 were in the top three journals in operations research, including the European Journal of Operational Research, the number one journal in the field of data development analysis (DEA). The above papers are also classic in operations research and are widely cited by scholars in related fields. The three most cited articles in the field of cooperative advertising are all published by Professor Huang.

  In this report, based on many practical business cases and classic top articles in operations research, Professor Huang described some traditional operations research models, such as goal planning, opportunity-constrained planning, and DEA. He vividly explained how operations research models are generated from practical problems and how they are applied to problem solving. Later in the report, Professor Huang showed the audience a streamlined but effective cooperative game model using a well-known manufacturer and retailer's cooperative advertising case. He provided enlightenment for everyone's modeling ideas and methods to solve practical problems. After the report, the participants had an in-depth exchange and discussion with Professor Huang on selecting key variables and parameters in the modeling process, and the modeling ideas of multi-objective planning.
