The Director and members of the center participated in the 10th Japan-China Joint Seminar on Sustainable Management of Cities and Regions under Disaster and Environmental Risk

  From January 10 to 13, 2020, Professor Wei Yi-Ming, Director of the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Research, Professor Tang Baojun, deputy director, Professor Liang Qiaomei, Assistant Professor Zhao Weigang and 11 doctoral students participated in the “10th  Japan-China Joint Seminar on Sustainable Management of Cities and Regions under Disaster and Environmental Risks” hosted by the Institute of Disaster Prevention of Kyoto University and Nagoya University of technology. The successful holding of the conference strengthened the academic exchanges and cooperation between Chinese and Japanese scholars in the fields of disaster risk management and climate change, and enhanced the friendship between the two sides.

  

  The two-day meeting was divided into 8 sessions, including "climate change and water resources management", "socio-economic impact of disasters and climate change risks", "disaster reduction and recovery strategies", "sustainable methods of disaster reduction" The sub-themes of "Disaster Mitigation Costs and Challenges", "Risk Management Uncertainty" and "Unconventional Oil and Gas Feasibility Analysis", the Chinese and Japanese scholars participating in this conference mainly come from Beijing Institute of Technology, China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower, Tsinghua University, Sichuan Normal University, Institute of Disaster Prevention of Kyoto University, Nagoya Institute of Technology and other well-known universities and research institutions at home and abroad. The participants of the center reported their papers as the first author or co-author, and had full academic exchanges and discussions with the participating scholars, which deepened the understanding and cooperation between China and Japan in disaster and environmental risk management, urban and regional sustainable management and related policy fields.

  The Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Research of Beijing Institute of Technology and the Institute of Disaster Prevention of Kyoto University have a solid foundation for cooperation. In 2004, Professor Wei Yi-Ming and Professor Okada Xianfu of Kyoto University jointly proposed to launch the Japan-China seminar on disaster and environmental risk management, which was held in turn in mainland China and Japan, aiming to strengthen the academic exchange between Chinese and Japanese scholars on theoretical methods and application research in the fields of disaster and risk management, energy economy and climate policy. The first nine sessions were held in Beijing, Kyoto, Zhenjiang, Kyoto, Beijing, Kyoto, Beijing, Kumamoto and Beijing, respectively.
