On April 11, 2021, Dr. Zhengmeng Hou, academician of the German Academy of Earth Sciences and Geotechnical Engineering and professor of Clausthal University of Technology, Germany, was invited to the CEEP to give an academic report entitled "How Yunnan Province Takes the Lead in Achieving Carbon Neutrality". Professor Wei Yiming hosted the report, and teachers and students of the center participated in the report.

Academician Hou shared a report on the research results of "How Yunnan Province takes the lead in achieving carbon neutrality". The report first introduced the energy production and consumption structure of Yunnan Province, the six major areas of carbon emissions, carbon sinks and carbon neutral development forecasts, and the technical route of energy transition in the context of carbon neutrality. Then, Academician Hou introduced the team’s independent development. The “Green Energy System Based on Intelligent Multi-sector Coupling Technology (ENSYSCO)” proposed a feasible plan for Yunnan Province to take the lead in achieving the goal of carbon neutrality. The report predicts that hydrogen energy will be the most important secondary energy in the future, and underground storage will also become an important energy storage base with its advantages of safety, efficiency and low price. Finally, Academician Hou looked forward to the development prospects of energy in China and the world, and believed that China will achieve a carbon peak by 2030 and Yunnan will achieve a carbon peak by 2025. After the report, Academician Hou and the teachers and students of the center conducted further exchanges and discussions on technical development issues such as CCUS and hydrogen energy in the context of carbon neutrality. After the meeting, Academician Hou took a group photo with the teachers and students of the center.
