Dean Prof. Bao-Jun Tang: Challenge and development trend of new energy vehicles in China

  Press of Forecasting and Prospects Research Report (2015) was held successfully on 10th of Jan 2015 in Beijing. The report Prospect of Chinese new energy automobile industry developmentwritten by the team of Prof. Bao-Jun Tangis released by the Center for Energy and Environment Policy Research, BIT.

  
  Recently, according to the China Association of automobile manufacturers figures,78,500 new energy vehicles was produced in 2014 and 74,800 was sold, increased by 3.5 and 3.2 times over the previous year .Theindustry faces a number of problems and challenges in the future development, although new energy vehicles in 2014 have behaved well, said by Prof. Bao-Jun Tang.
  At present, new energy vehicles mainly promoted in the urban areas of public service in China, including buses, taxis, sanitation trucks and other areas of promotion.The generally low consumer's willingness to buy is the greatest challenge facingby promoting marketof new energy vehicles in China.This is mainly for low "value for money" of new energy vehiclesand the imperfection of existing infrastructure.China's Government will mainly take the form of subsidies or tax incentives to support the development of new energy vehicles, which are considerable risk.
  Prof. Bao-Jun Tang suggested that under the Government's encouragement, a favorable external environment for the development of new energy vehiclesshould be provided withmulti-party Government, enterprises, operation and maintenance of mechanisms.

  
  Overall, along with the increasing emphasis on issues such as energy, environmental protection, new energy vehicles will become the future trend of automobile development.But for now, there are a lot of challenges for development of new energy vehicles in China, thus it requires Governments, research institutes, enterprises and other actors to work together.
