On October 31st,Dr. Paul Burke gave the talk entitled”Electricity subsidy reform in Indonesia: Demand-side effects on electricity use” at CEEP.The talk was hosted by Prof.Hua Liao and many students in CEEP attended the report.
Dr. Paul Burke is a Fellow in the Crawford School of Public Policy at the Australian National University (ANU). Paul's research focuses on the economics of energy, the environment, transport, and developing countries, particularly in the Asia Pacific. In today’s report,Dr. Paul Burke mainly talked about demand-side effects of Indonesia’s budget reforms on electricity use.His estimates suggest that subsidy reductions since 2013 have induced electricity savings of around 7% relative to the no-reform counterfactual. He found remaining subsidies has the potential to generate further improvements in the efficiency of electricity use in Indonesia, while freeing up resources for other priorities.
After the report,Dr. Paul Burke took the picture with teachers and students in CEEP together.
