2026 marks the starting year of China’s 15th Five‑Year Plan. The global energy landscape is undergoing profound shifts, and China’s energy transition is gathering pace. Centering on key issues in energy and carbon‑emission reduction, the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Research (CEEP‑BIT) of Beijing Institute of Technology will host the 2026 Launch Conference of the Research Report on Energy‑Economic Forecast and Outlook based on long‑term research accumulation. Experts from government, industry, academia and research institutes will be invited for commentaries. Since 2011, CEEP‑BIT has released its annual forecast‑and‑outlook research report to the public for 15 consecutive years at the beginning of each year, drawing extensive attention from all sectors of society and generating notable social impacts.

The 15th Five‑Year Plan period plays a pivotal connecting‑link role in China’s development of a new‑type energy system. What does this “connecting‑link” role entail? What landscape will unfold for China’s energy development in this period? How will energy systems further integrate with socio‑economic systems, and what is the nexus between energy development and macro‑economic regulation?

Against profound reshaping of the global energy landscape, energy transition and development face arduous tasks in the inaugural year of the 15th Five‑Year Plan. Can emerging sectors such as hydrogen energy become powerful engines driving high‑quality economic growth? Will supply‑demand balance and quality‑efficiency improvement advance in tandem across various energy sectors?

Escalating geopolitical tensions and trade frictions produce mutual spill‑over effects on national energy transitions. With machine‑learning methodologies, how can we quantify comprehensive transition effects within dynamic trade networks? How can regions and countries adopt differentiated arrangements to boost transition performance?

In 2025, international oil prices trended downward amid volatility under generally loose supply‑demand conditions. How will supply‑demand fundamentals alter their support for oil prices in 2026? What are the short‑term shocks and long‑term repercussions of geopolitical conflicts on oil prices? Will oil prices keep falling or exhibit new volatility patterns?

China’s carbon market has achieved leapfrog development in recent years with expanding coverage and growing policy influence and market expectations. How performed the global and Chinese carbon markets in 2025? What further steps will China’s carbon market take to invigorate market vitality, stabilize expectations and pursue external alignment?

Computing power has emerged as a critical strategic resource in the digital‑economy era. Against the dual‑carbon goals, low‑carbon computing‑power services represent the core pathway toward decarbonization, universal access and market‑oriented operation of computing resources. Looking ahead to the 15th Five‑Year Plan, what breakthroughs and opportunities lie ahead for low‑carbon computing‑power services?

Founded in 2009 upon institutional approval by Beijing Institute of Technology, the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Research is affiliated with the School of Management. Most of its researchers originated from the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Research established by Professor Wei Yiming at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2006.

Responding to major national strategic demands in energy security and climate‑change mitigation, CEEP‑BIT conducts systematic research on key scientific questions concerning energy economics and climate policy. It pursues new insights into the interactive dynamics among energy, climate, carbon‑mitigation and socio‑economic systems, supports evidence‑based decision‑making for energy transition and climate strategies & policies, and cultivates high‑level interdisciplinary compound talents for national modernization.

The 2026 Launch Conference of the Research Report on Energy‑Economic Forecast and Outlook will be held at Juxian Hall, 2nd Floor, Youyi Palace, Beijing Friendship Hotel (route map attached), starting at 14:00 on January 11, 2026.
