Prof. Tad Murty Visited CEEP-BIT to Talk About Early Warning Systems and Damage

  On 24th June, 2015, Tad Murty, Professor of University of Ottawa, visited CEEP-BIT. He gave a talk about “Early Warning Systems to Mitigate Loss of Life and Damage to Infrastructure for Sustainable Development” and received a warm welcome. This seminar was hosted by Prof. Hua Liao, the deputy director of CEEP-BIT. Teachers along with students from CEEP-BIT attended this seminar.

  In the report, Prof. Tad Murty illustrated that climate change is of great importance to the sustainable development, classified the existing nature hazards into three types: permanent hazards, progressive hazards and episodic hazards, and demonstrated the basic principles and applications of early warning systems for natural hazards like Tsunami. Prof. Tad Murty has kept conducting researches and carried out practice activities concerning management, which is reflected by the interesting and practical report he gave this time.

  After this seminar, teachers and students from CEEP-BIT had a heated discussion with Prof. Tad Murty and had a picture taken together.
