At 15:00 on April 4, 2018, Zili YANG, professor of the SUNY-Binghamton, USA, was invited to visit CEEP and gave a talk entitled “Rice model and China Climate Change IA model”. The report was hosted by Prof. Biying YU, many teachers and students attended the report.

Zili YANG, professor of economics at the State University of New York at Binghamton, an adjunct professor at Beijing Institute of Technology, and a Ph.D. in economics from Yale University. He is mainly engaged in the research of resource and environmental economics, energy economics, economic modeling, applied game theory, and Chinese economy. In collaboration with professor William D. Nordhaus at Yale University, he developed and established the most influential climate change integrated assessment model (RICE model) in the world, and published in American Economic Review and other important journals. The RICE model and its derived models are widely used in previous reports of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Prof. Yang independently developed a research method that combines the concepts and algorithms of numerical solutions of game theory with integrated assessment models of climate and economy, and has taken the lead in this pioneering field. He was the first scholar who introduced non-cooperative game and cooperation game solution into the large-scale integrated assessment model and he was the most important modeller of the EPPA model of the MIT Energy Laboratory in the 1990s.

In today's report, Professor Zili YANG mainly introduced the representative model DICE/RICE of climate change integrated assessment model, the model content and assumptions, and the relationship between the two models, the external environment in the model, the application of Nash equilibrium theory and game theory, model development and application research, etc., and further explore how to apply the RICE model to the China Climate Change IA model. After the report, Professor Zili YANG took the picture with teachers and students at CEEP together.
