On the morning of March 15, 2026, the 1st Member Representative Meeting and the 1st Council Meeting of the 9th Session of the Chinese Society for Socio‑Economic Systems Analysis were grandly held at Beijing Friendship Hotel. Jiang Lei, Deputy Director General of the Personnel Department, and Ma Huaidong, First‑Level Researcher of the General Department of the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defence (SASTIND), attended and guided the meeting. The conference successfully completed all agenda items for the leadership transition and election, electing the council members and standing council members of the Society’s 9th Council, as well as a new leadership team headed by Professor Wei Yiming as President. The convening of the meeting marks a new stage of development for the Society.

On behalf of the new leadership team, President Wei Yiming stated that the 9th Council will closely align with national development priorities and focus on eight key tasks: building expert teams, clarifying the Society’s vision and mission, optimizing functional positioning, expanding membership, reshaping its academic brand, standardizing internal governance, deepening open cooperation, and integrating into the national innovation system. The Society will fully contribute to high‑quality national development and modernization of national governance.

Jiang Lei, Deputy Director General of the Personnel Department of SASTIND, congratulated the Society on the successful convening of the conference and the inauguration of the new leadership. He expressed hopes that the Society will play a greater role in serving national development, advancing national defense science and industry, and supporting the national strategies during the 15th Five‑Year Plan period. He also urged the Society to uphold a high political stance, focus on the mission of strengthening national defense, enforce rigorous and standardized management, and forge ahead with solid dedication to break new ground for future development.

Initiated by the distinguished scientist Qian Xuesen, and promoted and sponsored by former Vice Chairperson Chen Muhua and Ma Bin from the Development Research Center of the State Council (DRC), the Chinese Society for Socio‑Economic Systems Analysis is one of China’s earliest non‑governmental think tanks. It was jointly founded by the Development Research Center of the State Council, the former State Commission for Restructuring the Economic System, and systems engineering experts from the No. 710 Research Institute of the Ministry of Aerospace Industry led by former institute director Song Jian and deputy director Yu Jingyuan.

Preparation for the Society began in 1984. It was approved by the State Science and Technology Commission in December 1987 and officially registered with the Ministry of Civil Affairs in 1992. As a national academic social organization with independent legal personality, the Society is affiliated with the China Aerospace Academy of Systems Science and Engineering and supervised by SASTIND. Successive presidents of the Society include Ma Bin, former Deputy Director General of the DRC; Kong Deyong, former Director of the Science and Technology Exchange Center under the State Science and Technology Commission; and Jiang Zhenghua, former Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress.
