On February 10, 2017, Dr. Zhu Liu from California Institute of Technology gave a report entitled “Anthropogenic carbon cycles and the implication for climate change mitigation” at CEEP-BIT. The report was hosted by A.Prof. Biying Yu, some other teachers and students attended the report.
In this report, Dr. Zhu Liu focused on the anthropogenic carbon cycles, explained why the carbon provided by human activities is gaining extensive attention. But lots of questions still remain. The national emission data provided by different organizations often have huge gaps which raises uncertainties for the research results. What’s more, cement emission and Carbon embodied in international trade is also controversial which affected the climate research and national adaptation responsiblities deeply.
Zhu Liu is a Research Associate and a joint Giorgio Ruffolo Research Fellow in the Sustainability Science Program and the Energy Technology Innovation Policy project, a joint project of the Science Technology and Public Policy Program and the Environment and Natural Resources Program at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs of Harvard Kennedy School.
His research focuses on global sustainability and the assessment of the human impacts on the earth system in terms of greenhouse gas emissions. He hold Ph.D. in Ecology from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (2013) with joint training by University of Cambridge (2012). He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geology from Northwest University (2007) and a Master’s degree in Ecology from China Agricultural University (2009).
Zhu have authored about 40 academic publications in Nature, Nature Climate Change, PNAS and other professional journals(See Google citation page). Zhu’s research has also been covered by 300+ international media outlets including by Nature, Science, New York Times, BBC, and CNN, and has been cited by policy stakeholders as scientific basis for environmental policies.
