Dr. Paul Burke from Australian National University (ANU) gave lectures at CEEP

  Recently, Dr. Paul Burke from Australian National University was invited to visit the School of Management and Economics and the Energy and Environmental Policy Research Center, and gave the doctoral student four lectures on the theme of energy and environmental policy with topics as: i) “Market-based instruments to improve the environment”; ii) “Energy policies in resource-rich developing countries”; iii)“The environment and the economy”; iv) “Australia’s environmental policies and energy transition”. Many teachers, postdoctoral and master students also attended the lectures.
  Dr Paul Burke is a Fellow in the Crawford School of Public Policy at the Australian National University (ANU). Paul's research focuses on the economics of energy, the environment, transport, and developing countries, particularly in the Asia Pacific. His ongoing research includes examining Indonesia’s energy subsidy reforms, Australia’s ongoing energy transition, US energy demand, the economics of road safety, and benefits of electricity access. He is a Project Leader in the Australia-Germany Energy Transition Hub, has been awarded an ARC Discovery Early Career Researcher Award, 2016–2018, and received the ANU College of Asia & the Pacific Award for Teaching Excellence in 2013.

 

 

  In topic i), Dr. Paul Burke first directed the writing and publication of scholarly papers and then analyzed the effects market-based economic instruments, such as tax and subsidy policies on improving the environment. In topic ii), he gave a detailed introduction of the instrumental variable regression technique and discussed extensively with students, for example, how can resource-rich developing countries escape the resource curse, how should resource revenues be raised and spent. In topic iii), he mainly introduced the theoretical models and related empirical researches on the environmental impact of short-term and long-term economic growth. In topic iv), He focused on Australia's environmental policy and energy system and conducted in-depth discussions with students on how the government can ensure a smooth energy transition.
