Ji Changjing, PhD student of CEEP-BIT, was funded by the "National High-level University Graduate Program" sponsored by China Scholarship Council. In April 2021, she went to the Wageningen University (WUR) in the Netherlands for a one-year doctoral joint training. Dr. Edwin Van Der Werf, Ji Changjing’s foreign tute, is associate Professor of Economics at Wageningen University. He is also a research fellow at CESifo Munich, Germany. His research interests include the economics of climate change, environmental and resource economics, especially the economics of climate change mitigation policies, and the design of emission reduction policies.

Ji Changjing is mainly engaged in research on the design, evaluation and modeling of emission reduction policies. During the visiting period, she mainly cooperated with her foreign mentors to conduct research on the evaluation of the emission reduction effects of global carbon pricing policies, the design of carbon trading mechanisms, and the construction of carbon trading analysis models. Carbon pricing policy is considered to be a cost-effective emission reduction tool. By 2021, 45 countries around the world have implemented or plan to implement 64 carbon pricing mechanisms, covering 12 GtCO2e of greenhouse gases. China is also adopting the carbon trading policy in carbon pricing to promote emission reductions currently. Since 2013, seven local pilot carbon markets have been operated in succession, and the national carbon market will be officially launched in July 2021. The construction of the national carbon market still has a long way to go. Therefore, it is essential to evaluate and analyze the emission reduction effects of the existing carbon pricing mechanism for further construction and improvement of the national carbon market, so that carbon trading policies can better serve China’s carbon market. Reach the goal of peaking and carbon neutrality.

During her visit, Ji Changjing attended the weekly academic lectures of the Department of Economics, fully learning the research paradigm of economics, broadening her research horizon and thinking. In addition, she also actively participates in the academic activities of research group, Environmental Economics and Natural Resources Group (ENR). So far, she has made two work reports in the research group meeting and communicated fully with the teachers and students of the research group.
