China Energy Report 2014: Energy Poverty Research has been released by Beijing Science Press recently. This report is the fifth volume of the China Energy Report series, which is written by the research team led by Prof. Wei Yi-Ming, distinguished Professor in Cheung Kong Scholars.
Energy poverty is a great challenge to worldwide energy system, which has gained a lot of attention from societies and academic communities. As the biggest developing country in the world, China’s energy poverty is severer and more complicated. According to the report, energy poverty mainly includes three aspects: the low level of energy consumption; the undesirable structure of energy consumption and the lack of ability to pay for clean fuels.
The report covers following issues: the methods to evaluate energy poverty, construction of comprehensive evaluation indexes for China energy poverty, evaluating of China energy poverty from both time and space dimensions, the impact of solid fuel on urban and rural residents’ health, the relationship between energy poverty and economic development, clean energy and energy poverty, climate change and energy availability, the policies to eliminate energy poverty and so on.
Volume of China Energy Report is published every two years. Every volume has its own subject, based on the situation of international and domestic energy economy and climate policies. The subjects of previous four volumes in this series are Energy Security, Energy Efficiency, CO2 Emissions and Strategy & Policy respectively.
