【About Report】:Against the backdrop that global climate actions are far from achieving the temperature control targets of the Paris Agreement and the Earth system is approaching catastrophic tipping points, Solar Radiation Modification (SRM), as a supplementary planetary cooling measure, has attracted widespread attention from the international community. Nevertheless, disputes over its feasibility, risks and ethics remain unresolved. Focusing on Surface Albedo Modification (SAM), the least controversial branch in the SRM technology spectrum, this study systematically sorts out its technical principles, global research progress and existing application practices. It also introduces our team’s explorations in high-reflectivity photovoltaic material research and development, global albedo virtual satellite constellation monitoring, and the marketization of SRM environmental benefits. Based on the zero-dimensional energy balance model and Absolute Global Warming Potential (AGWP) method, this study quantitatively assesses the climatic effects of SAM. The research shows that although SAM can hardly offset global warming independently, it features relatively simple technology, locally controllable impacts and existing application precedents, making it a feasible supplementary pathway for climate action. Establishing an accurate accounting method for SAM climatic effects and incorporating it into carbon market trading mechanisms is an urgent task to promote rapid large-scale deployment of this technology.
