Title: The Evolution of Climate Change and the Post Kyoto Framework

The UNFCCC, with its focus on targets and timetables, has neither led to emissions reduction nor been able to bridge differences between countries for long term co-operation to meet the climate challenge. As developing countries are taking the leadership in emissions reduction, climate change is now synonymous with sustainable development, considering both environmental damage and social transformations in order to guarantee human well being. Equity should, therefore, be redefined in terms of access to electricity and innovative technology, or, patterns of resource use that are in principle common for all
