From April to May 2026, multiple doctoral students from the center participated in international academic conferences, model training workshops and thematic seminars, carrying out exchanges and learning on cutting-edge topics including sustainable cooling, energy transition, climate adaptation and urban energy systems.

Yang Bo, a doctoral student in the center’s overseas joint-training program, traveled to Vienna, Austria to attend the Sustainable Cooling Forum 2026 hosted by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). He also took part in the MESSAGEix model training workshop organized by the ECE project team and a series of related seminars at IIASA. Through these events, Yang Bo gained a systematic understanding of the latest progress in fields including global sustainable cooling, energy system modeling, climate adaptation and health risk assessment, and exchanged views with experts and scholars on topics such as model solving, parameter setting and climate governance.

Zhang Ruining, a doctoral student from the center, participated in the Young Energy Economists and Engineers Seminar (YEEES), where he conducted academic exchanges on research related to the low-carbon energy transition. The seminar adopted a paper pre-review mechanism, which facilitated in-depth discussions. Zhang Ruining received constructive feedback from scholars with different research backgrounds and established connections with a number of early-career researchers, providing support for subsequent paper revision and research expansion.

Cai Qiran, a doctoral student from the center, attended the academic seminar Digital Platforms, Market Liberalisation, and the Energy Reconfiguration of Cities organized by the Energy Centre at the University of Auckland Business School. The presentations focused on the impacts of digital platforms on urban energy demand, commuting patterns and digital infrastructure systems. Through this seminar, Cai Qiran further deepened his understanding of the relationship between digital platforms and urban energy systems.
