At 15:30 pm on December 6, 2019, Dr. Wei Taoyuan, a senior researcher at the International Center for Climate and Environment Research, Oslo, Norway, was invited to visit and gave lecture entitled "Analysis of the Rebound Effect of Improving Energy Efficiency". The lecture was chaired by Professor Liao Hua. In attendance were teachers and students from the School of Management and Economics.

Researcher Wei Taoyuan has Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Oslo, Norway. He currently works at the International Center for Climate and Environment Research, Oslo, Norway. Mainly engaged in energy and climate change economics research, focusing on green national economic accounting and the use of computable general equilibrium (CGE) model to analyze issues related to energy, environment and climate. Researcher Wei Taoyuan has hosted and participated in more than 10 international and domestic projects, and published more than 50 academic papers related to the research field, including more than 40 international journal papers.

In this lecture, researcher Wei Taoyuan deduced the possibility of the rebound effect of increasing energy use by increasing energy efficiency based on microeconomic theory, that is, despite the increase in energy efficiency, the potential energy savings did not reach the expected effect. At the same time, the CEG model simulates the economic development of different regions of the world, considers the difference in rebound effects caused by improved energy efficiency, and how to measure the rebound effect. At the end of the lecture, we had in-depth exchanges on the differences of rebound effect and measurement methods in different countries.
